Behind every brand lies an untold story of choices and sacrifices. The unyielding choice to pursue it every single day; to be bold enough to bring your ideas to the world. That’s what we are all about – #BeBold
We were two youths with our lives carved out for us. Yet, one of us took a gap year in university, and the other left behind two businesses. All this, just to chase an idea. Time and time again, failed prototypes nearly depleted all our life savings. Rejections and naysayers added to our already dwindling spirits. There were two choices: to fall back on what is certain or to continue to venture into the unknown.
Looking back, it might have seemed foolish to listen to our inner voice and take the leap of faith. But this is how BOW was born.
Dare to be your inner voice. #BeBold
A bow is a flexible arc that shoots arrows through a tensioned string.
Anything worthwhile has grit behind it. The tension in the bow is the tenacity that you must have to last through the journey. Just like how the energy from the bow is transferred to the flight of the arrow, we envision propelling you forward through our gear.
You are the arrow. Make your shot count.
WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Hi there, we are the Co-Founders of BOW – Mandy and CK.
Mandy took a year off school to start on this venture while CK quit his full-time job to focus on BOW.
If you could join the #BeBold Movement, we’d love it (and MAYBE buy the Quiver).
HOW IS ‘BOW’ PRONOUNCED?
Bo with a silent h like ‘honor’ or like ‘hour’. It also rhymes with doe.
WHAT IS THE #BEBOLD MOVEMENT?
In short, it’s about inspiring people to embrace challenges and breaking through their limits.
WHAT IS QUIVER AND WHY THE NAME?
The only bag you need for your active lifestyle. But also, Quiver is a bag used by archers to store all their arrows. Likewise, we created Quiver to carry your gear and achieve your target.
FOUNDER OF BOW AND AMBASSADOR OF THE #BEBOLD MOVEMENT.
I fell in love with the idea of being an entrepreneur and creating my own business when I was interning at 3 startups prior to BOW. From the dynamic culture to the satisfaction of working on something that you’re passionate about, I wanted to create something that I could call my own!
Having an idea and actually executing it are two completely different matters. It’s been a roller-coaster ride of emotions and events throughout the journey of BOW. Trying to convince people to take an 18-year-old seriously, managing the logistics of moving the product and finding the right manufacturers are just some of the challenges I encountered in the early days of BOW.
Add to these the fact that I was embarking on my entrepreneurial journey at the expense of my education – I took a gap year to work on creating BOW without having a concrete business idea then – and you can imagine the disapproval from my family and friends!
Fresh out of High School without any real experience of the business world and I even had to travel to China by myself to meet the manufacturers!
Looking back, I’m amazed at the fact that I took such a huge leap of faith and I’m immensely grateful for everything that I’ve experienced. Education is important but I realized that Life will provide the greatest education if we could only step out of our comfort zones.
One of my biggest motivators is my fear of regret. I couldn’t stand the thought of having to live with the perpetual questions of ‘What-if’s or ‘If-only’s if I missed an opportunity simply because I wasn’t Bold enough to step out of my comfort zone.
I wanted BOW to embody the bold spirit and to encourage people to take the leap of faith to chase their goals no matter how far they may seem at the moment!
CO-FOUNDER OF BOW AND AMBASSADOR OF THE #BEBOLD MOVEMENT.
Short for Calvin Klein, most people call me CK (just kidding!). I believe in creating meaningful products that combines both functionality and style. Ultimately, a product should be a reflection of the user, not the other way around!
Trained in design, I ventured into the F&B industry upon graduation and set up two businesses.
It was a huge learning curve which afforded me the opportunity to gain valuable insights and skills which have facilitated the creation of BOW, a business which inspires me every day.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disheartened with this experience but I wouldn’t let failure deter me from doing what I love – creating a business that I enjoy and that would make a positive impact on people!
That for me, was the Boldest move I ever made! BOW was born as a result of that decision and I want the company and brand to always represent the “never say die” and “just do it” spirit. BOW has already successfully created our first product: Sweat Bag and the next series will be launched on Kickstarter soon.
Remember, being bold does not mean being rash. I hope people who follow us and purchase our products will be similarly empowered to rise from failure to success!
SALES & MARKETING OF BOW AND AMBASSADOR OF THE #BEBOLD MOVEMENT.
Shortly after graduation from university, I joined an advertising firm before venturing into the property and real estate space to bring my marketing glitz. After a year of hopping around these companies, I realised how much I missed being in a startup environment!
Passionate about marketing, social media and search engines, I joined BOW to be their number #003. Ultimately, it’s not about selling just a bag, it’s about believing that the brand is something you stand for.
For me, to #BeBold is to dare to step out, to take a chance, to believe that what you do today would impact your future. So chase those dreams, live life to the fullest and then you can proclaim that your life is well-spent.
Keep it simple and honest, and the rest will follow.
EXECUTIVE ADVENTURER OF BOW AND AMBASSADOR OF THE #BEBOLD MOVEMENT.
A total sucker for bags. Yes, that’s what I am. Not just bags that look good, but bags that can go wherever I go, and serve multiple functions in my everyday life. You would also find me spending a lot of time on Kickstarter because I take great interest in crowdfunding projects; I have supported quite a few projects. Hence, when I learnt about BOW and what they were up to, there was only one thing to do. I had to get me some of that action.
Currently in my final year of university, trying to make the best out of the opportunities I get before I start taking on the real world. An outdoorsy person, I indulge in mountain biking, skating, hiking, camping, and basically anything that keeps me active and gives me an adrenaline rush.
To me, being bold is to not look at life through a keyhole. To not be bound by your circumstances, but to find opportunities in them. Being bold is also not about having no fear. In fact, it is the fear of regret that drives me out of my comfort zone. Because in life, you will only regret the things you didn’t do.
